We were overjoyed to receive such an enthusiastic response from those who entered our Take a Seat competition with The Portsmouth News, and are touched by the wonderful stories shared by long-term theatre-goers.

It is a delight to announce that it will be 95-year-old Nellie Harvey’s name etched onto a seat in our brand new auditorium when it opens in October. Nellie was nominated to have a seat by her daughter and was selected as the deserving winner by our Chairman Judith Smyth and Entertainments Editor of The News, Chris Broom.

A place that holds many precious memories, Nellie recalls: ‘I used to live in Hampton Street just a few minutes’ walk away. I would finish work and then run to catch the shows.

‘We used to go down an alley at the side of the theatre so we could go in the cheap seats where it cost us just a sixpence.’

The opportunity to name a seat is available during the opening year for the special cost of £215. The sponsored seats will display each sponsor’s name on a plaque for the life of the seat. Open to everyone, the seats can be used as a unique gift, as a dedication to a loved one, to promote a business or as a way of showing your support for the theatre.

Sponsoring a seat does not include admission to individual performances/events or guaranteed allocation of that seat for a particular performance. Seat choice is based on a first come first served basis.
