Not to be outdone by Peter, we grabbed Hannah McIver from the rehearsal room to see how she’s getting on with the cheeky fairies and pesky pirates.
Hi Hannah, what are you enjoying about this rehearsal process?
The flying! Obviously. Although it really hurts! I’m enjoying working with the children too – they’re really cute and enthusiastic. They join us at that time in the evening when we’re all starting to flag a bit, and they bring a real burst of energy into the room, a burst of life. There really is a family feel, which is lovely as we’re performing over the Christmas period.
Tell us a bit about the character of Wendy?
I really wanted Wendy to not be your typical damsel in distress, your regular panto princess. The way the script is written she really has a purpose, she’s feisty. That’s so much fun to play. Wendy has quite a journey in this play, she’s a child when she leaves the Nursery but comes back more of a woman.
What are you looking forward to about starting the performances?
I can’t wait to get the show on in front of an audience, and have them enjoy the comedy. An audience’s energy always makes a real difference, especially with this kind of show. I’m excited to go to Neverland. I’ve seen parts of the set, so I’m looking forward to seeing it all together.
How are getting on living in Portsmouth?
It’s so windy! But it’s nice, I live in London where people don’t greet you on the street, but Portsmouth has a really friendly community.
What are your first memories of Christmas shows?
My grandma used to take me to Christmas shows, I couldn’t tell you which ones they were – but I remember one of them had ducks in it! They really get you in the Christmas spirit.
And finally Hannah, what are you hoping Father Christmas will bring you?
I want a puppy! For Christmas snuggles and cuddles. A golden Labrador would be lovely.
