Across the whole company, there are 26 children performing in Peter Pan, split into two teams. We sought out the four Darling Boys to see how they’re getting on.
Hi boys, thanks for joining me today. What’s it like rehearsing Peter Pan here at the New Theatre Royal?
Laurence, who plays John: ‘It’s the best experience of my life, everyone is really supportive. It’s so much fun.’ Oliver, who plays his younger brother Michael, added ‘It’s the most professional of all the things I’ve done so far. There’s no messing about in rehearsals, you just get on and do it!’
What are you enjoying about the rehearsal process?
Casper, who also plays Michael: ‘I love that our roles are part dancing, part acting. It’s exciting to work with the professional actors, they’re really kind. I feel like they’re friends, they talk to us, we’re one big team.’ Dylan, playing John: ‘This is my first time on a show of this size. Time is quite short, but I’ve enjoyed how busy it’s been. I’ve learned how to learn lines quickly.’
Very important question – you all get to do something very exciting in the show, how are you finding the flying?
Laurence: I feel good now! I’m excited.
Casper: I can’t wait to fly! Having extra flying rehearsals has been really helpful.
Now, we are missing two very important members of our team today, how are Darren and Darren the Teddies coping with their theatrical debut?
Oliver: Darren Two was a bit nervous about some of his onstage action – especially the moment when he gets dropped from high above the stage. But we’ve all had a chat with him and he seems alright now.
Casper: Darren One has done very well in the flying rehearsals, Oli and I just have to make sure we don’t drop him!
What are you all looking forward to about the performances?
Dylan: The flying, mostly! All my family and friends are coming to see it, so I’m looking forward to performing for them.
Oliver: I can’t wait to get a really good buzz from performing in front of all those people. And, I’m looking forward to flying!
Casper: I’m really excited to do the show, all the songs and dances, and the set looks amazing.
And finally, Christmas is coming, what are you all hoping Santa will bring you?
Laurence: I can’t decide between board games or musical soundtracks, as I spend a lot of my time listening to them.
Oliver: Darren the Teddy!
Casper: If he’s having Darren One, I want Darren Two!
Dylan: Coach training skills so I can be the best football manager ever!
