Portsmouth Poetry, a new cultural organisation working with Portsmouth Festivities has announced an exciting line up for an electrifying evening of poetry on the night of the EU Referendum.
Punk icon Dr John Cooper Clarke will bring with him three brilliant performers to our stage on June 23.
Dr Clarke will be supported by comedian, actor and writer Simon Day. He has made TV appearances in Jonathan Creek, Hustle, Holby City, Skins, the Fast Show and Death In Paradise and film roles include Shakespeare In Love and Run Fatboy Run. Simon is famed for brilliant character invention including his alter ego at the NTR performance; Geoffery Allerton, “Yorkshire’s foremost poet”!
Also appearing are two rising stars of the increasingly popular performance poetry circuit, Clare Ferguson Walker and James Massiah.
Clare Ferguson Walker is an accomplished sculptor and talented poet who wowed audiences with her award winning one-woman show at last years’ Edinburgh Festival. She is, according to Phill Jupitus “Absurdly talented!”
James Massiah is a poet, musician and DJ. He has been commissioned to produce work by the BBC, Guardian, Britvic and Nike and appeared in campaigns for Levi’s and Dr Martens. Interviewed recently by Jonathan Ross, his previous performances before coming to the NTR have been at the Southbank Centre, Tate Modern, QE Olympic Park and Houses of Parliament.
Portsmouth Poetry Chair Josh Brown – “We are a new organisation on the local cultural scene and this is our debut performance. We booked Dr Clarke after his current tour had been finalised and we have been given the most exciting line-up. The theme of this years’ Festivities is Electricity and this show promises to deliver just that!”
