Shakespeare 400 at New Theatre Royal
This year marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, an event that will see the nation come together to celebrate his legacy and the magnitude of his cultural influence. Here at New Theatre Royal in celebration of the Bard we have included a host of his works in this season’s programme, all of which are aimed at different audiences and ages to help make Shakespeare accessible to everyone.
The events start on Sunday 8th May with Shakespeare Untold, a family-friendly double bill of plays from London’s world-renowned venue, Shakespeare’s Globe. The critically acclaimed show offers an alternative twist to two Shakespearean classics, retelling the stories you know from the characters you don’t including Titus’s piemaker!
This is followed by the Ballet Cymru’s performance of Romeo and Juliet on Thursday 26th May. The award winning company will present an extraordinary adaptation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece complete with intense fighting, passionate duets, dramatic choreography, exquisite costumes and extraordinary video projections.
Finally, on Wednesday 13th July The Globe on Tour will return to perform their riotous new production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Led by a joyful ensemble of players, audiences will be entertained with songs, romance and chaos, as they hurl Shakespeare’s anarchic comedy into the 21st century.
