A special reading to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo will be held at the Square Tower in Portsmouth this Sunday. Written by the late Phyllida Clark, a long-term supporter and trustee of New Theatre Royal, the reading will be performed by her childhood friend and TV actress Denise Black alongside Patric Howe and Henry Oastler. Using words, sounds and pictures, the story is told through the voices of the soldiers and their families and friends.
Denise is originally from Hampshire and attended Portsmouth Girls School. Having been inspired by performances at New Theatre Royal, Denise went on to become an actress and is best known for her roles in Coronation Street, Queer as Folk, Benidorm and Emmerdale.
